Female Genital Pictures with Labels

This is a small collection of vulva and genitalia pictures that have been labelled to help you learn about the different parts that make up the female genitals.

These may include:

  • The Vulva
What many people mistakenly call the Vagina is actually the Vulva. This is the outer part of the female reproductive system and includes the external genitalia. It does not include the Anus.
  • The Labia
    • Labia majora (outer lips): These are the folds on the outside of the vulva, often covered in pubic hair.
    • Labia minora (inner lips): These are the folds closer to the vaginal opening, starting at the clitoris and ending underneath the opening.
  • The Clitoral Hood
Like the Labia, the Clitoral Hood is folds of skin that protect the Clitoris
  • The Clitoris
  • The Urethra
This is where urine exits your body
  • The Vagina
The vagina is the internal canal where period blood leaves your body, where you might have penetrative sex, and through which a baby descends during childbirth.
  • The Hymen
  • The Perineum
  • The Mons Pubis
The rounded, fleshy mound above the pubic bone that becomes covered in hair at puberty. The Latin name means “the mound of Venus.”
  • The Anus
The only part of these pictures that doesn’t belong to the Vulva

Knowing Your Body is Key

If you’d like to get acquainted with your vulva (which we highly recommend!), you can use a handheld mirror for a closer look and identify all the different parts.

Alternatively, many women now prefer to use a mobile phone (smartphone) camera in selfie mode to take a close-up picture of their genitalia which they can then study. If you would like to contribute to our project – which aims to reduce stigma around genitals and to help other girls and women like you to see that they are indeed normal – we would love for you to add your image completely anonymously to our database.
