Your Amazing Vulva: Beautifully Unique! (for girls 5-13)

Remember when we learned about the parts of the vulva? You might have noticed that when you look down, sometimes you just see a line and not much else. That often happens when your outer labia (outer lips) are closed.

But guess what? Not every vulva looks the same, even when the outer labia are closed! Some girls see just a line, while others might see a bit of skin covering their clitoris (this is called the Clitoral Hood – it helps protect the clitoris, like a little protective hat!). And some girls even see their inner labia (inner lips) peeking out a little bit.

This is all completely normal! Every single vulva is wonderfully different, and they are all beautiful just the way they are.

All Kinds of Wonderful: The Many Shapes of Vulvas

As we’ve said, every vulva is unique, but there are some common shapes for the labia. We’ve drawn six shapes that you might see often to show you how varied and amazing vulvas can be!
Which shape do you have?

Many girls have a shape like Barbie or Horseshoe until they have puberty. The shape can change as you grow older.

1. Barbie

4. Horseshoe

5. Kiss

The Inner Labia comes out from hiding and can be easily seen.

6. Curtains
